I wanted to capture the beauty I see in smallness and motion. The idea of syncopating music and movement; a melody playing in your head while watching a plant sway. Even the tiniest beings in nature are full of life.

I awoke
this morning
in the gold light
turning this way
and that

thinking for
a moment
it was one
day
like any other.

But
the veil had gone
from my
darkened heart
and
I thought

it must have been the quiet
candlelight
that filled my room,

it must have been
the first
easy rhythm
with which I breathed
myself to sleep,

it must have been
the prayer I said
speaking to the otherness
of the night.

And
I thought
this is the good day
you could
meet your love,

this is the black day
someone close
to you could die.

This is the day
you realize
how easily the thread
is broken
between this world
and the next

and I found myself
sitting up
in the quiet pathway
of light,

the tawny
close-grained cedar
burning round
me like fire
and all the angels of this housely
heaven ascending
through the first
roof of light
the sun has made.

This is the bright home
in which I live,
this is where
I ask
my friends
to come,
this is where I want
to love all the things
it has taken me so long
to learn to love.

This is the temple
of my adult aloneness
and I belong
to that aloneness
as I belong to my life.

I imagined them popping out of a portal. Bendy and twisty. Defying time, space and gravity as they moved their bodies. We were in a collective space that we created together through their facilitation. By making us laugh. Getting our guards down. Letting us get to know them. Joking at the obvious differences and fears. Striking common ground. And then with cheers and chants to the music, they begin. They're in the zone. It's yoga in motion. And we're all mesmerized, transported into another dimension altogether.

I kept the music raw, sometimes slowing it down. I wanted it to feel like the breakers they existed in another plane. We, the bystanders, couldn't move in these strange ways, but they could. We were just spectators, with the viewer part of the crowd.

I was motivated to create this after watching my neighbor clear-cut his yard of ~20 trees. I would lie under their branches and watch birds hop from one to another. We place such little value on trees. These majestic beings.

Certain moments accidentally happen. They can happen accidentally, but you can also make them happen consciously. The chaos simply shows that the higher force was absent from our perspective. The problem is with our minds and our inability to explore the micro and macro at the same time.

Sometimes we can close our eyes and imagine an alternate reality. A scene that would nominally register suddenly bursts into the unexpected. This video was an exploration into the dimension of time. I altered the time depth of each pixel into a new imagined and distorted reality.

The seasonal wind, a living breath existing both as order and disorder. There is an elegance and symmetry deep within nature. Looking deeply, we find it filled with fractoids, alive and swirling around their invisible centers. Whirlwinds unto themselves, spiraling and spreading in all directions.

How do we get embedded within our dreams? What happens to our perceptions? It seems that dreams cannot be internalized until we emerge from our embeddedness in it. We are naturally trained to assign meaning to that which we experience. Only by stepping outside of ourselves do we start to see the larger patterns that govern our lives. Our brains look for patterns, and in the case of dreams, we self-generate them so that we may be able to reflect on ourselves. This video explores the fragmented journey of dreams.

Ideas often start as small seeds of inspiration then stretch and morph into a being unto itself. This concept was sparked from the sounds I heard while visiting monasteries in Nepal. The reverberation and echos of monks throat chanting. The sounds of bells ringing. And then stretching that idea visually because that experience had dimension.
